Canadian Midwest Moonlight

In the constant need for subway knitting, here is Midwest Moonlight, from Scarf Style. I just can't seem to go to work in the morning unless I know I've got something for that half hour ride. I was actually 20 minutes late today, just because I needed to get a project oganized. I didn't wake up knowing I would be starting this today, but here she is:

I love the pattern a lot more than I thought I would. Just complicated enough to keep you engaged, not so daunting that I'm worried I'll mess it up if I'm bleary eyed with fatigue. I'm not using anything fancy, yarn-wise. That's just some icy blue acrylic that I bought years ago (remember a time when you didn't know anything about fibre? that's when I bought a huge bag of this stuff), that has a thin pearly strand in it. I actually really like it- it's very soft, and has a lovely sheen.

And Thermal? why, it just needs a couple of buttons...

It's so funny- I've been thinking about this pattern a lot because I am thinking about sending the yarn for it with Scarf Style for a swap (my first swap, so I'm very anxious to do a good job).

So now that you've started, I'm wondering if you could help me. If you could have the *perfect* yarn for Midwest Moonlight, what would it be?

I'd go with something that has good stitch definition, and something really soft and squishy. It's going to be right up around your neck, chest, and face, and that's where skin tends to be sensitive. A great merino or woool/silk blend would be perfect. I like Knitpicks merino style, but I'm cheap that way! Check out all the different yarns that people have used for this pattern on ravelry- it's incredible to see what some have done. This one I added to my favorites, it's such a departure from the original look, and just through yarn choice alone!

I really like that silk garden one. I had looked through Ravelry and saw some really pretty ones (this one was especially inspiring):

I think I am going to poke around for a deal on some handpainted merino. Thanks for your thoughts!
