Sad News

Our beloved hedgehog, Bruce Quillis, passed away. It appears to have been a combination of age and her weight (the vet said our hedgie was at a higher risk for fatty liver disease because she was not so into veggies but was very into mealworms, which is the hedgehog equivalent to a cheeseburger). Also, we bought an older hedgie that needed to be re-homed, not a young baby hedgie.

I talked to BQ every day, taking care of the daily needs and just generally checking in. I'm  in the habit of looking over at the cage every time I pass by, and it breaks my heart to look at the now empty space. Guy cleared away her cage, wheel and toys while I was sleeping to spare me the painful task. He also buried her in the garden under a tree. Oh yeah- turns out Bruce was a girl, not a boy. that was a news flash at the vet office a while back!

Goodbye, Bruce Quillis. You were much-loved.

I am so sorry, this is such sad news. (((HUG))) But I don't believe that I have ever seen a hedgie more loved and cared for! She was very much part of your family. You have happy memories to look back on, and Bruce Quillis will always be with you in your heart.

I'll miss seeing Bruce on the blog, she was such a cutie. She was a lucky girl to have you as a mom for the last year of her life!

I'm so sorry ! I have a hedgehog and I know how their little personalities just get into your heart.

It was so good of you to take in a hedgie that needed a new home, and I am sure she knew and appreciated it.

It's so hard when our pets pass away, but I think life would be much harder without them in our lives.

Julie, I am sorry for your loss. However, I commend you greatly for adopting a pet that needed to be re-homed... you are an amazingly generous and kind person for doing so. I am sure that BQ had many more happy days with you than she would have had anywhere else and I am sure she knew that she was loved.

When you first got Bruce Quillis, I had to share your blog post and photos with my kids who promptly fell in love with BQ, too. I'm so sad that she is now gone but like all our beloved pets, she was well-loved!

I am so sorry for your loss - hedgies are such precious angels from heaven only lent to us on earth for too short a time. Rest in Peace, Bruce Quillis.

Bless y'all - I know it's hard when those we love pass. Bruce Quillis was so very lucky to have found a forever home with your family - she was much loved and had a very happy life.

Thank goodness for the pets we have loved. All that unconditional love with no attached baggage. You'll miss this little one but, for what it's worth, she'll go down in history as having one of the all time great pet names!

We are so sorry to hear about Bruce Quillis' passing. I still remember how smitten my husband and I were when we heard about your adorable little hedgie as hedgehogs aren't common pets in Australia. Please know that he (she) had made an impact to people all over the world :) thanks again for sharing Julie!

Testing this out and hoping that blogger finally accepts my comments on your blog! Love this new look! Sorry BQ passed away, but I'm sure she had been a very happy hedgehog. Love that comic strip of Lila.. She has really big eyes! And apparently a sense of humor already. ;)
