New Pattern: Velvet Morning

I'm so excited that the new issue of Knitty has gone live, and my latest pattern is in it! Everyone, please meet Velvet Morning:
IMG_4721-16
It's knit up in Tanis Fiber Arts Green Label, with Midnight as the base colour, and three contrasting colours: Sand, Mallard, and Atlantic. Tanis graciously test knit it for me in a totally different colourway, and you should check out her photos here.

I LOVE this sweater. it's such an easy thing to wear- pants, long sleeved tee, Velvet Morning. Done.

It was ridiculously hot when we did this photos, I was getting cranky from the heat (I was also very early days pregnant, I may not have been feeling awesome, either- I was so tired all the time in the first trimester). So  I'm not as smiley as I usually am! But trust me- I wear this sweater all the time, and I'm so glad that it still fits now that I'm pregnant. That's the best part when all the growth is up front- open, drape-y cardigans still fit like a dream.

My creation
The sweater is meant to be oversized, with lots of positive ease, and lots of cozy warmth.   The sweater knits up surprisingly quickly in the aran weight, and for those that aren't crazy about stranded colourwork, I bet this would look amazing in two colours- one base colour and one contrasting colour. I hope someone does it so I can check it out!

Looks perfectly lovely! Congratulations on your latest Knitty turn!
Can't quite tell - is that a geometric pattern? I love stranded colourwork so I'm certainly not scared off by it!

Love it Julie! I could totally see this without the colour work as well. A lovely cozy cardi!
Congrats on another published pattern!

Wow, congrats! That is GORGEOUS. I love the use of fair isle on a "non traditional" shape like this. Open fronted loose cardigans are my favorites!!! The colors are gorgeous tooo. Just awesome.

The pattern is free?? How nice of you! I already commented on ravelry, but it is so beautiful. I would love to get better at colourwork, but I think it would take me forever to make! So I was already thinking I'd love to make this cardi for my mom, maybe in two colors, or all in stripes. Now the tricky part for me is figuring out which size would be right for mom!

this is stunning; congrats! it's the first thing that caught my eye in the knitty issue & i was delighted to see that it was yours! i don't knit a lot of colorwork because the density of the fabric generally makes it a bad choice for southern california, but in this open, breezy design i don't think it would be a problem. you just might tempt me to branch out!

This is absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to cast this on. I am a total lover of cardigans, especially since I'm due with my second child in February. Thank you so much for offering such a beautiful pattern for free!

And also, congrats on the new addition. :-)

Julie, this looks so cosy but also classy. A BIG like! :)

And guess what! I actually dreamt of it last night! In grey though, although I much better like the look in your dark blue. Does this mean I have to knit it? ;)

Oh my, it's beautiful! Is there a color you don't look good in? :o) I'm glad you can still wear it while pregnant.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the colorwork and the fact that it is not all-over, I think it works great that way! Congrats!

This is a beautiful design Julie! It looks so comfy and so perfect for winter...both in terms of style and color/pattern. I have not yet progressed to colorwork sweaters but when I do make that leap, this one will likely end up in my queue!

I love the new design! It looks great and the color work adds interest without overwhelming the cardigan!

I just realized I never commented on this, but as I peruse Ravelry and run into this sweater again and again, I am each time awed anew. It's so very lovely, and your color palettes are brilliant! Great work!
