"experimental blogging day: to try and push your creativity in blogging to the same level that you perhaps push your creativity in the items you create."
So I thought I'd do my first-ever video blog post! It's on how to wear a caplet, since I've had some comments on caplet FOs in the past saying that people aren't really sure how to wear them. This is how I wear them. I wasn't in front of a mirror at all, so this is what I would consider to be 'real life' caplet application. I don't know about you, but I don't look in the mirror every time I adjust my clothes or put a coat on.
***UPDATE: Some of you have commented on caplet vs. capelet. There is no difference, I just refer to it as a caplet, because to me, they seem more like the knitted cap of a mushroom than anything resembling a cape. Personal preference only.
I was nervous- this really was something completely different for me! I think next time I'll use an HD camera or something, because this is grainy city. Definitely a learning experience!

Thanks for the great caplet tips! Cute video, I loved the wave part! :) I always wanted to make a caplet, I just wasn't sure how I would wear it. You video helped a lot. Thanks! I might just knit my first caplet soon! Gatsby is sooo cute!!!
You were delightful! You should do that more. It was really interesting to hear and see what you did with the caplet and I'm not sure everybody would be able to be as natural in front of the camera as you were. Well done!
Great video! It was indeed helpful. Thanks :)
Well, you taught me something -- I had NO idea that a caplet and a capelet weren't the exact same thing, just spelled differently! In fact, I'd never even noticed caplets, so that was very informative!
You are SO sweet! :) I really loved this and loved seeing you "live" after reading for so long!
Also, have to agree with Jen - I also thought it was capelet, so I've definitely learned something. :) Thanks!
Love this video! I need a caplet right away, they are so cute on you, and now that I know how to wear one I'm going to make one for sure. The wave part was a nice touch, I always like to make sure that I can do the wave at any moment no matter what I'm wearing!
Awww, you're so cute! And helpful, as usual. I just wear my caplet/capelet/pseudo-poncholettes over my coats too. Super comfy, super versatile.
this is a fab idea. there are so many amazing things i would love to knit, but some of them, once they are FO's, i'm just not sure that i would wear them, so i hesitate to cast on. frankly in the online knitterly world, i think a little more time should be spent revisiting FO's, after they have had a chance to be tested in the world... so i like this!
Thanks for the video! I've been wanting to make a caplet for a while, but wasn't sure exactly how to wear it. And you're so sweet! You should definitely think about making videos a regular component of the blog!
I LOVED this!! Haha, silly is definitely the best way to go :-P The whole caplet thing had me uber confused, haha, but this was really really helpful :-P
You're too cute. :) I've never been interested in making a caplet before because I wasn't sure how they worked exactly. I don't like having my arms pinned down and didn't understand how it could work otherwise. So thank you for showing us! :)
Great post Julie! I love your caplets and this has truly sold me on knitting one.
Hi Julie, thanks for the video, you did very well! I have been looking at different caplets for a while now so hopefully I can make one for myself this winter (coming up in Australia).
ps - love your blog and your clever creations!
I loved it! What a great idea!
I agree with everyone - helpful and fun! You are very natural on camera and it would be cool to see more video blog posts in the future - featuring Gatsby too! Keep up all the great work! :)
Nice to see you in motion. :)
Is it even possible that someone as gorgeous as you could also be so engaging on video AND so talented as a knitter and designer?
Wonderful to watch, so relaxed, lovely voice.
You look a little like a very petite Anne Hathaway, but with a prettier voice.
It was lovely to see you animated, as it were.
Loved it - and you sounded exactly how I thought you would!
What a great video! I've always wondered how to wear caplets and now I can't wait to make one. It was lovely to see you, the wave was very cute and your cat is amazing! :D
What a great blog-post!! Ok my next knit: a caplet!
Very nice, Julie. Don't you feel the fool talking to a camera, though? However, you performed beautifully. Maybe we can expect some more videos?
I love your video! Thanks for going out of your comfort zone to do this for us. I had never thought of making a caplet, but they look so cute and cozy on you, I think I might try it out now. Thanks!
Great video, you did not seem nervous at all. And the caplets are great, I might actually knit one for myslef....
The how to video was very helpful. Thankyou :o)
I'm going to have to knit a caplet now! You should video post more often! It was cute and fun. Thanks for doing something different!
I loved your little video! Very well done and you have a great camera presence. You should do more. :-)
Good god, woman, you're adorable! Seriously, though, like others have said, you were definitely entertaining and natural, and I would definitely watch more videos if you made them. I'm still not sure I could pull off the caplet look, but maybe...
That was a great video thanks so much for doing it! You've made me want to make a caplet now. :)
You are so cute! I loved your video, and you make it all look so effortless. My one capelet just isn't so graceful, and I believe that is due to the lack of shaping. Me thinks I must knit a better capelet!
Oh, and I love Gatsby. He meowed for the camera! Love.
That was awesome - thanks for the tips!!
I loved it and agree that it was fun and you seemed like a natural on camera. And I like the caplet instead of capelet...makes me want to make one.
Great video and lovely cat! He's huge! I was wondering what breed Gatsby is.
This video is great, and you are a delight! Must add capelet/caplet to the queue.
Loved, loved, loved the capelet/caplet video! (Love your blog too). It was really great. Thanks!
You are such a natural in front of the camera! Great post--I don't think I'd have thought to scrunch up a caplet around my neck. Your caplet knits always look so stylish--this definitely encourages me to give one a go. Thanks!!
You are SO CUTE :-) Julie, I loved watching this AND I will have to look in to knitting a caplet. I'm always chilly in the winter (as mild as they are here in TX) but I hate wearing layers! A caplet sounds like it would be perfect around the house, then as a cowl when I put a coat on to go out.
Thanks for sharing.
I loved your video Julie! I hope you can do more! It was very nice to watch after reading you for so long!
How cute are you. Silly IS good, I did the wave with you.
Hi Gatsby!
Hey pretty cool video! It makes such a difference to pictures. Funny thing is I thought your voice would sound totally different :)
Way to go! You stepped outside your comfort zone and came out with a great video!
That was great! I think you've hit on something new for your blog! The whole vid made me smile, especially hearing you wear Capelet #2 a lot! ;)
Helpful and adorable! Now I need to check out some caplet patterns....
You looked like a natural-bravo! I'm completely inspired to try a caplet now that I see how versatile they can be. The whole arm-lifting thing has been demystified for me. Thanks!
you are pretty much the cutest!
You are so cute! Very well done first video! And if it makes you feel any better it doesn't look grainy at all on my iPhone! Loved it, I am sooo going to knit that cabled caplet! Adorable.
OMG, you're adorable!
I've been wanting to knit a caplet for a while but wasn't sure I would get much use out of it, I think you have convinced me though!
Love the video. I have always admired caplet patterns but wasn't sure how to wear them. You make them look very stylish and versatile. You are a natural in front of the camera and I hope you post more videos.
haha- this is great! i've always wanted to knit a capelet, but always kind of wondered if i would use it. however i am inspired now to make (and wear!) one, so thank you. and keep up the videos- you did well!
I love the idea of making videos to show off designs. Do you ever wear the capelet OVER your jacket? I keep thinking that would look really nice, but I haven't gotten around to knitting one to try it.
Lovely designs. And you're sooo pretty! :)
I like the Wave. :)
ha! just saw this post too. You're freakin' adorables. Love the capelet tutorial - I now want to make one! :-)
You are absolutely adorable! I love seeing knits in use since all we really see are the stylized FO shots. Gatsby is huge!
That was too funny! And indeed informative, well done!!
That's cute! You're good on camera.
And it was informative. I love the idea of capelets, but I've hesitated knitting one up for the simple reason that I wasn't quite sure what to do with it after.
Love the video! Where did you get the pattern for your caplets? I love them both but can't find anything like them.
