Pattern: Stockholm Scarf
I did promise you all a free pattern, right?
I'm excited to introduce the Stockholm Scarf, which is a luxuriously large and cozy infinity scarf. This scarf looks good with dressy and casual coats, and adds a great pop of colour on a dreary winter (or in this case, a very pretty November) morning. This is a quick knit, and so easy to wear.
I was inspired to create this after all the great compliments I got on the big infinity scarf I bought in Stockholm in August. I was a bit embarrassed when people asked if I had made it and I had to say no (although I then got to say that I got it in Stockholm, and that part was pretty fun).
This scarf features a completely reversible stitch pattern with a 4 row repeat, and is easy to memorize. I knitted this scarf in two pieces and seamed them together, but this was because I didn't have a needle long enough for the whole scarf. The pattern is easy to knit either flat (back and forth in two pieces) or in the round. It's also a fast knit- it took me less than a week from cast on to cast off.
What are you waiting for? Grab the pattern here! Ravelry pattern link is here. It took me 4 tries to figure it out, so if there are 3 other versions of the pattern out there, my apologies. I left my cleverness in bed this morning, it seems.
A huge thank you goes to my husband G. Not just for the photos (and he always takes such great photos), but for designing the pattern layout and making it look great. In the title bar of the pattern, there is an odd shaping- that is actually an outline of a Stockholm city map. All his idea, and it looks incredible. Thanks, my love!!

It's gorgeous! I really like the color. When I make mine (for surely I will! Just have to finish up all these UFO's) I'll be sure to choose a bold color as well. Thank you so much for the free pattern, lovey!
Thats so lovely Julie. It might just inspire me to pick up my needles again!

It's lovely! I have been looking for a big cowl like this for a while. So glad to see yours! Thanks for sharing it!
I've just downloaded the pattern. Now just need to find the right yarn!
Fabulous scarf and perfect timing too! I had a coworker request an infinity scarf and was having trouble finding patterns I liked.
Thanks for pattern. Scarf looks fantastic!
Beautiful scarf- you take the most gorgeous photos!
Thanks for the free pattern. It really is gorgeous!
What a fabulous design! The texture of the stitch pattern is so neat, and I LOVE a big, cozy scarf like that. Looks like a lot of fun to make, too! Well done, you!
Gorgeous! -And may I say, REALLY expensive looking... like if I saw a non-knitter wearing that I would assume they had spent big bucks at a specialty store! And your PDF looks awesome! Good job!
Awesome job Julie! Looks great, a must knit for sure!
Completely gorgeous! I love the stitch pattern - and the color. Great scarf!
The scarf is really lovely! Thank you very much for this great pattern. I surely will knit this scarf, at least when I'm ready with all my christmas projects ;-)
and by the way, I love Stockholm, too. It is a wonderful city and I was there already twice. But I'm not as far away from it as you are.
Have a nice day!
Love! Now *this* is a scarf pattern that speaks to me! Thanks so much for sharing.
I love it! I've been looking for an infinity cowl pattern to knit and I think this may be it.
That is gorgeous -- not sure which I love more, the size or the texture. Can't wait to knit it. Thanks for the great pattern!
This is a great scarf, and beautiful colour!

Julie this is beautiful. I will definitely have to add it to my queue. You're right, your husband takes great pics of his lovely model and you guys did a great job publishing the pattern.
You make a great team!

Congratulations! It looks so cozy and the pattern itself looks great! Love the image of enlarged pattern details!
Stunning stunning stunning!!!
LOVE everything about it. I definitely will be queuing this one.
(And can I say, you are so very gorgeous)
This is beautiful! Thanks for posting the free pattern -- I can't wait to try it. I want to knit it with slightly bulkier yarn, on, say 8 or 9 mm needles. Do you think it will still turn out ok?
Thanks everyone!! I really enjoyed knitting it (once I figured out a stitch, that part was challenging. Jennifer, it won't let me email you back so I hope you check the comments again- I do think you could knit with 8 or 9 mm needles and worsted or aran weight yarn, but you'll probably need more yarn to get the length. A quick swatch should tell you how to proceed.
I heart this pattern! Beauty! I want to run out and buy some cranberry yarn right now!
This pattern is exactly what I was looking for, and its free too. Thank you!
oh wow this is lovely! thanks for sharing the pattern!

This is beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing. Just wondering if the pattern as written is for knitting in the round or knitting flat. I could just try it out for myself, but I want to take the lazy way out.
Lovely pattern, thanks so much for posting it free for everyone!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful pattern! I was trying to knit it the other day and had problems working out the right amount of stitches to work the pattern. I was trying to knit in the round and I cast on 256 stitches as you mentioned. I noticed when I got to the end of just the first row, that I didn't have enough stitches to knit the whole pattern for the row. I frogged it and started over again 2-3 more times. Then I tried knitting it flat and I had the same problem. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Sorry if this is a bit of a silly question perhaps I need to cast on more stitches to make this work? Thank you so much for your help!
Hi jigosta, you'll need to send me an email, and we can sort it out. Are you on ravelry? If not, my email is on the website, on the right hand side, message me there so I can reply to you properly!
Beautiful pattern - and lovely photos. You're very photogenic, and your husband does a great job. Congratulations!
This is gorgeous! Can't wait to knit it... thanks for sharing your design!
This patten looks great - I would love to make it for my grandma who lives in the midwest and the winter get very cold. Question though: can this cowl also be worn as a hood?
Thanks for sharing! The pattern and color of the scarf look gorgeous. I'm not sure when I will ever find the time to make this...but I am determined to do so!
Thank you so much for this pattern! I'm going to cast it right on with my new Donegal Studio Aran Tweed that I bought on my holiday in Dublin last weekend! :-)
Finished mine. Absolutely adore it! Thanks so much for the great pattern! very generous of you :)

This is a great pattern, and I love the raspberry colour of yarn used. I hope to find a vibrant colour for mine. Thank-you for sharing, and for taking the trouble to make so many translations!
Ok, thank you so much and I am so excited to start this project! I do have a question. I know you refer to both knitting two flat panels and knitting in the round, is the pattern row 1-4 for knitting flat or in the round? I will be knitting in the round and would like to ensure i make any necessary adjustments to the pattern.
Beautiful cowl. I love this color what color is it?
I wonder if you've ever worn this cowl up over your head, and how it works for that?
I too wonder about wearing it different ways, especially, since my arms get cold at the computer in winter, as an upper arm shawl. Can you mention other ways to wear it? Thanks for a gorgeous pattern.
Thanks for this! I haven't knit in years but wanted to try my hand at the infiniti scarf. This pattern was super easy and quick (and thank goodness for Youtube videos reminding me how to cast on/off!)
O! It's amazing!!!
