Modification Monday: Saved by Seed Stitch Side-to-Side Cardigan

 Original Pattern: Knit Side-to-Side Cardigan

Knitter Extraordinaire: Teresa  (Rav Id, blog)

Modifications:  Added a seed stitch border to the entire sweater, changed button placement for closure. More details on her project page.

What Makes This Awesome: The mods don't seem that complicated, do they? Yet the simple act of adding the seed stitch edging and the button alignment makes this sweater even better than the original. Since then, almost everyone else who has knitted this project has used Teresa modifications, because they yield such lovely results. This cardigan now looks really classic and at the same time, something fresh and a bit different. I love the diagonal button closure, I think it's really flattering for a wide variety of shapes and sizes. And how amazing does her yarn choice look in this pattern? This sweater was made for a gorgeous tweed yarn. The results are perfect!

You're right those mod are just amazing if you compare with the original and the knitters on Ravelry. This one looks much more modern. Just one thing though, i'm wondering about the up corner that would fall if you don't put an agraph or something to attach it. But most of all, i love it. Thank you to have share.

I cannot believe it is the same cardigan! I would have not considered knitting the original one, so plus point for Teresa to actually make it in the first place, and thanks for highlighting the modifications!

Oh! This would be a perfect spring cardigan. I'm positive seed stitch will improve anything.

Wow, it's amazing what a difference such seemingly minor mods made! The original was a bit on the frumpy side, this looks fab!

P.S. Is it wrong that "butt alignment" made me laugh? ;)

haha, I totally missed that! I've corrected it to 'button'. Stealth humour, sneaking into posts!

Perfect example of how some simple changes can alter the entire vibe of a garment.

Diagonal sweater theme! Love it. This version is leaps and bounds more adorable than the original. I didn't even think twice when I saw the original pattern, but these mods make me want this sweater so bad. Such a great job!

I totally agree on the yarn choice with the pattern. That sort of stuff fascinates me. It's a skill I'd like to hone. Which I do believe means that I get to buy more yarn to experiment, right? :)
