I no longer wonder why 3,880 people on ravelry have knit this shawl.

Pattern:
Swallowtail Shawl
Needles:3.5 mm circular
Yarn: Alpace with a twist Fino
Mods: None. Zip. Zilch. Didn't even add extra repeats.
Notes:Due to a Nothing Suitable to Knit meltdown twenty minutes before we left to go on our honeymoon, I grabbed a ball of laceweight alpaca I had been squirreling away for a shawl, grabbed the pattern for the Swallowtail Shawl that I had printed off more than a year ago, and stuffed it into my carry on. I knit half the shawl during honeymoon travel and beach time, and the other half on Easter weekend. My one complaint: knitting nupps in laceweight is not fun times. To the point where I consider myself unlikely to knit nupps again anytime soon (i.e., this calendar year).

But oh, it's all so worth it when you've finished blocking and wrap your shawl around your shoulders for the first time.

Even little Yarn agrees.

Although she did say the shawl looked better on her than me, that cheeky little scamp.

that is so so pretty!
lol Love your last comment... cats are so tricky.. mine never attacks yarn.. just likes to sleep on them...
Great shawl!! I feel the same way about lace weight as you about nubs.. I still don't think I can knit laceweight...
Both you and the kitty look good in it. :)
It's gorgeous! What a wonderful souvenir/reminder of your honeymoon. Your little Yarn is so cute! The shawl does match her eyes, but seems to fit you much better. :)
It is so very beautiful! Lovely!
That looks sooo beautiful....on both of you. lol. Great color, too!
I love how Yarn's eyes match the yarn. The shawl is gorgeous. What a great honeymoon memento!
That is GORGEOUS! Seriously beautiful!
Beautiful, delicate and refreshing!
Wow, great job! The colour is wonderful on you too (although I think it looks mighty nice on Kitty too).
Oh so gorgeous!
So beautiful! And it looks great with your cat. I'm so impressed that you could work on a lace project on your honeymoon. I can't even seem to get a darn baby sweater done in '09!
That's a wonderful shawl. I got a pair of stockinette socks done on our pre-honeymoon. You win. Makes me want to break out the lace weight and pattern I've been saving!
Gorgeous! Those nupps were enough to make me swear off them for life. I knit my Swallowtail in January 2008 and I still shudder at the memory.
This is just beautiful.
I love the Swallowtail shawl. I made one for my grandma and she loved it too. I'm planning on making one for myself, but I can't figure out what yarn to use. ;)
It looks so pretty on you! I love the green colour.
It's gorgeous! I've had those one on my to knit list forever too. Maybe make a very wee one for Yarn? I wonder how a cat would do with a shawl... (other than look really damn cute) :)
Super cute, and by that I am referring to you, the shawl, and yarn! :)
After knitting the Swallowtail Shawl for my mom for Christmas last year I felt the same way about nupps! I had to use a smaller sock needle every time I came to a nupp in order to be able to knit it, it was so annoying! Your shawl looks gorgeous though, and what a great reminder of your honeymoon, I think that's a perfect honeymoon knit, a keepsake.
