* I want to thank Jules for keeping up with the great posts in my post-move absence. I realize that I haven't posted on my Spencer or anything knit related on my side- save for celeb knits- in a looooong while. I'm going to buckle down the next two-three days and churn out some quality posts, scouts honor.
Meanwhile, I have some sad family news to share. RIP Marley
Marley, the kitten I mothered with Karo had to be put to sleep. The vet said he had a urinary tract infection which more than likely stemmed from the WHISKAS we had been feeding him. Male cats are more prone to this condition, especially those under 2 years. I urge anyone currently feeding their cat this brand to do some more research and even check first with the vet before continuing to do so. :( He was a whippersnapper sure, but no cat has ever come this close to my heart. I miss him and his kitty kisses deeply. Here is a video I took of him the day I taught him to fetch.
RIP little fella.

So sad to hear about your kitty, he seems like such a great guy. It must be hard not to have him around.

I am so sorry, that sucks. There is never anything that is appropriate as a response..... except that it's not cool, and your pain is shared. We who have pets, we know this pain.

Ugh. That is so tough. You never expect these little animals to wiggle into your heart - but they do the funniest damn things and make you laugh every day... hopefully you have many fond memories that will make you laugh while you cry. Hang in there, and think of the good.

It's always very hard to lose a pet. I recently lost one myself. I'm sad for your loss.

you put him to sleep for a uti? i am confused. urinary tract infections are very treatable. i have a male cat herman who has gotten them twice. i know dogs who get them. and the vet never said to put them to sleep. did you get a second opinion? this is awful

I'm very sorry to hear about your poor kitty. we had to put our guinea pig to sleep a couple of years ago due to kidney failure and it was wrenching. :(

Melissa, the vet that decided it was best to put him to sleep WAS our second opinion! The first vet we took him to told us that he was fine-that we should check his poop for any foreign objects as he had probably eaten something that didn't break down. That until he passed it- he would have trouble peeing.

So we waited a couple of days. He was going to see another vet on the 3rd day, and we still had no idea what was actually wrong with the little guy...and what with the blasé attitude of the first vet we never imagined that we'd be putting him to sleep in a matter of hours.

The second vet, diagnosed that he needed surgery and quickly put draining tubes into his bladder to relieve pressure. By this point he had stopped peeing all together due to his tract being fused shut from all the crystals? Either way he was largely misdiagnosed the first time and his condition worsened dramatically in the final day or two. Surgery may save him, but the outlook wasn't so good, and he would probably pass within a year due to the fragile state he would be in after the invasive surgery, draining tubes, medicines etc...

So Karo and her mom made the hard decision... and let him have what little peace we could.

I feel so angry! Vexed beyond belief at this first doctor that he saw. Minerals like that build up over longer periods of time. Why wasn't he diagnosed then if he had such a high percentage a few days later?! Bhlarg. How does this man even have a license to practice medicine if he can't notice obvious signs of a fairly common ailment.

Such a late response, but I'm so sorry to hear about your pretty and sweet kitten, and so frustrated to hear about the mis-diagnosis of your first vet and I'm really surprised that a cat food can be such a problem for them (I'm going to tell ever cat-owner I know, seriously).
