A Chanel Masterpiece: Train De Nuit

Chanel No. 5 : Audrey Tatou
Audrey Tautou is breathtaking as the new face of Chanel. In the ad, she travels on the famed Orient Express to Istanbul. Jean-Pierre Jeunet directed the latest in the line of legendary advertising commercials. Audrey's love interest is smoking hot too, +5 . The full video was released today on the Chanel website. CHANELN5.COM You must watch it! Look at that cinematography.

A Few Asian Fashion Knits

Having grown up with the intense love of all thing Asian, not a day would go by when I'd ask a classmate where she bought a certain article of clothing. I'd cry a little inside when I was told that this sweater or those socks were bought in Japan, or HK even. Soon, I just learned to admire from a far and find dupes here where I could. Enter the internet. Stumbling upon angiehearts.net was like walking into a my old classmates closets, it's the style that's nothing like here that I'm still in love with. Angiehearts is like walking into a Forever21 for the first time. Sure, the clothes may be the highest quality (what is?), but at prices like this it's prefect for that night out when you just need something new. ANYTHING NEW. While amassing a gigantic shopping cart/wish list, these two totally knitable designs caught my eye.

Beaded Wide Sleeve Sweater: Tube body, two large rectangles folded down for sleeves, cute beads and you are set. I have a turquoise top like this that's a clapotis dupe:

The second knit I loved is something I'd wear on vacation, or to the beach as a cover-up. Knitted Irregular Hem Sweater
knit asymetrical top and on it looks like... knit asymetrical top
How cute would that look over a bathing suit? Perhaps even done in a slightly looser gauge and larger needles for better air flow would be best. I'd make the collar bigger so that it falls off one shoulder readily. Yup, sounds beachy keen to me :)

Must-Have Summer Knit: Quiksilver Womens Cable Vest

Quiksilver Womens Summer 2009 Lyndenburg
I think I've bought all the knits in the QSW line so far, and this will be no exception. The drape, emphasized racerback and intricate cables ooze out amazingness. *update* The Lyndenburg is now for sale in Europe, here are some more product shots:

WIP: Shrug Shots

DSC07305 DSC07310 DSC07331 DSC07344 DSC07333 DSC07334 DSC07356 DSC07355 This yarn (misti baby alpaca hand paint) is a dream to work with. I scratched my original idea for this shrug, and I couldn't be happier, it just wasn't working out like I had hoped. Another sketch jumped out at me around the same time so I dived into my trusty stitchionary and blamo. Eyelet Links. You can't really tell by the photos but this piece is about 8 repeats wide. I added selvage stitches thank god, so now that I'm at the arm holes I can decrease 4sts on either side for extra shaping. I'm not going to leave the edges bare like in the sketch though, I'll pick up the sts and rib around the same length as the bottom for extra finishing. I'm not going to curse myself, by saying it's going by fast, but I am enjoying it.

This fiber friendly episode aired on March 23. I only caught the tail end, but it lived up to Martha's promise above- someone knit a freaking DEER HEAD. I thought I'd seen it all. Martha also took a trip to the Lion Brand Yarn Studio and wrote about it on her blog.

VANcation in a Nutshell

Our goal of eating as much fish as possible was met at Pings Cafe, Toshi's and Guu. Toshi was the roe on the fillet, hands down. Their black cod dish takes 30 minutes to prepare and melts in your mouth. No teeth? No problem! I'm salivating just thinking about it. Man, I want to go back. T and I biked around the city a lot took the seawall up to Stanley Park, once got super lost but took some great photos. Ended up on Hastings, the street you can identify from the bum stench alone. I was shocked to see the blatant and rampant drug use. People shooting up in the street. People shooting up as they walk. In Toronto they at least try to "hide" it. In this little quadrant it's a junkies dream. No wonder they don't give a shit about pot, there are much bigger issues here. I wonder what they will do come 2010. (Set them up with a hotshot? That's what a few locals told us they're betting on... scary to even think imo.) Now, since VAN is known for it's rain, we weren't sure what we'd get. It was sunny all but one day. They knew we were coming. When on vacation, I expect sun. It was even mild enough for Kev to skate at the famed "Skate Plaza" for a bit. Had we more time and less skateboarders I would have liked to set up a good shoot for him. Next time. For the first and last leg of the trip we were graciously put up with our friend Claudio. He's into juicing for breakfast and wow, carrot juice isn't bad when mixed with citrus. I felt healthier than an ox after a cup of that. It majorly helped us gear up for Whisler. The drive there was breathtaking. Majestic mountains melting into the sea, great beasts of trees reaching for the sky... green everywhere. We visited a waterfall, which happened to be the one from Twilight (girlysquee!). Stopped in Aquamish, where Kevin and I ate a whole dominos pizza while we grocery shopped. We're sexy like that. Claire (Becca's God sister) and Jeff hooked us up with a chalet that was walking distance to the Creekside chairlift, not to mention that it was a freakin mansion. I was probably being anti-social but I spent a lot of time reading and sitting by the fire. We homemade sushi'd up the first night and played hilarious rounds of Balderdash until we needed to pass out. Couldn't be tired for the first day of riding. We lined up at the crack of dawn for a program called "first tracks" which is basically buffet style breakfast and early admission to the hills. After ghetto-ly stashing a croissant for later we hit it. Oh man did we hit it! Never, ever, EVER have I seen or felt powder like this. Hot knife + butter = me + whis We rode the Peak2Peak a few times just for the view. Hit up 7th Heaven, on Blackcomb, which is the #1 best riding terrain. There was powder up to my chest, making falling fun. I could have not died happier. Honestly, I think I cried a bit at points, cheering out and just plain maniacal laughing at our good fortune. People must have thought I was nuts. We couldn't have asked for more on this trip It was the time of my life

With sights like these...

BC Waterfall/Forest
(Kev, Claire, Me, Jeff, Becca)
How could one not want to live in Vancouver British Columbia? I can't remember seeing so much green in my life. Not to mention all their plastic bags are biodegradable, their transit system is electric (save for a few buses) and they have the best tuna tataki I've ever tasted, oh and you know, Whistler. Which is only two of the most beautiful hours you've ever spent in a car away. I only went a week, but suddenly Toronto doesn't feel like home. It's familiar, sure, but I left my heart on the west coast... and my blackberry. D'oh :( I hope to post a gallery of the trip soon, once all the photos have been processed by T.

Knitwatch09: Mid-Feb Edition

Ellen Pompeo Lazy Cable Sweater
Julie and I Ahem, Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigel went out for lunch last week. Ellen is wearing a super cute cabled sweater. No idea who it's by but I love love love lazy gigantic cables.
Ellen Pompeo Lazy Cable Sweater
I have a sweater from our Quiksilver Womens line that has a similar cable.
Since Kevin scooped it up in December I have not gone more than a few days without throwing it on. I'm afraid I'll wear it out. Next up is Freida Pinto in grey pullover. I couldn't find a good view of whatever that embellishment is on her neckline.
Freida Pinto Gathered Bow Sweater Freida Pinto Gathered Bow Sweater
Not sure if it's a bow or a gathered ruffle? One piece or an add on? What do you think? Here we have the Duffster, one of my favs, with a cute coffee run ensemble. I dig the tone on tone she's got here. The scarf is perfectly simple and super cashz.
HIlary Duff Enbellished Scarf HIlary Duff Enbellished Scarf
The edge could be crocheted or knitted and then sewn on after. I like the relaxed gauge that give it that stringy feel. Katherine Heigel wears a sleeveless cardi with an outfit I'd love to own. Le sigh. It looks great in the first photo, worn open. The second photo shows what it's like when it's wrapped closed, and look super cozy.

Annalynne Mccord is wearing a chrocheted scarf and eyebrows that are way too dark. We get it, you aren't a natural blond.

Not much to say here. Average scarf on an average tween actress. But Rihanna on the other hand....
Rihanna Skull Knit Dress Rihanna Skull Knit Dress
First thought-DomiKNITrix. Julie gave me her first book a while back and there was a similar pattern for a mens sweater. Second-skulls are dead to me unless they are on an Alexander McQueen Scarf. Third-Still a nice bit of intarsia/fairisle. Fourth-Rihanna can wear anything. Last we have Shenae Grimes, who is an actress(cough) on the new 90210 teen slutfest. Clearly, I'm not a fan. Which is why I'm suprised that she had such a kickass cardi. The musical theme is imaginative, fun and totally great against her tousled brown hair.

That's as nice as I can be talking about this girl who butchered one of my favorite childhood shows. Even with Brenda, Kelly and now Donna resurfacing I can't bring myself to watch any more. It's too sad.
