Now that G can finally travel (thank you, permanent residency!) we are planning on a little family visit to England at the end of the summer. And since we'll be so close to Europe, it only make sense that we sneak off for a mini holiday, just the two of us......
Have any of you been to Stockholm? I'm particularly interested in sourcing some cheap accommodation, fun cafes, interesting little shops, and (of course!) yarn. Got any good tips/leads?

I haven't been, but it looks GORGEOUS!
I love Stockholm! I my tips on places to go are a bit dodgy because I was in middle school when I went. I pretty much only went to museums when I was in Stockholm. We were only there a few days because we were going to a bunch of city/towns in Sweden. We went to the Music Museum and it was pretty entertaining because it has like a shrine to ABBA in it. The Vasa museum smelled weird and I found it boring. The Royal Army museum is really good if you're into that. I love military museums for some reason. There also are some smaller odd museums that can be entertaining. We went to a smuggling museum and the police museum.
Stockholm is absolutely beautiful. It's just nice to walk around there.
Awesome!!! I've never been, but looking forward to your "review"!
I'm going to England at the end of the summer too! And then Denmark for the semester, but I really want to make it up to Sweden and Norway. I can't wait to hear about your trip!
I am SO excited for you! I have dreamt of going to Sweden, land of my ancestors, since I was young, but have never made it. So I unfortunately have no tips for you, but I really can't wait to hear what you do and how you like it!
ohhhh....I am SO jealous! Take lots of pictures, ok?
Ooh! I lived in Sweden for a year and Stockholm is wonderful!
Wow! What a great project! Sounds like a really good city to see!
Love hearing vacation plans and the picture looks great! I have never been but I am sure you will have a great time. Spent some time in Chapters going through their travel guides and with the help of internet I am sure you will plan the best vacation ever. Looking forward to your pictures!
Hi:) Im a norwegian girl living in stockholm..its a really nice city (though bergen in norway is better;). I bet you will end up in Gamla Stan one day, wich is the Old Town, and a big tourist point. Here its lots of litle cafè`s and i have found all of 3 litle yarnshops there:) I would also recomend a boat trip around the city..i found it really nice to see the entire city from the water when i first were here. One place i feel you can find some different shops is on Södermalm, and really all over town in small sideways and so:) I wish you a nice trip to England and Sweeden:)
oh..btw..you should visit oleana`s store when youre in stockholm..they have just a litle one here (norwegian brand), but they make some really beautiful knitted clothes and blankets and so on:)
So exciting! Take lots of photos!
One day I will make it to the Continent. You and Guy must take many pictures of Stockholm. Also, yay! Julie in England! Hope we can meet up.
Can help you about England, but I am sure you have it covered, not a about Sweden unfortunately... Have fun!
Hello! I'm so excited for you. Stockholm is lovely. We have friends living there and visited for the first time last August. I found a yarn store where I was able to buy some 100% pure Gotland sheep wool. I will look for the business card from the store and get back to you with the info!
You'll love Stockholm. You could stay in the red boat hotel/ hostel once you're there. It's in the middle of the city and hey, you get to sleep in a non-moving boat. ;-)
So exciting! I love to travel - but I've never been to Stockholm. It looks like a fantastic place to visit. Have loads of fun!
I went to Sweden last year, and can definately recommend using knitmap.com! This way I found some great stores in Stockholm, amongst which I liked Marias Garn (with lots and lots of different yarns) and Sticka & Virka (really small, but packed full with yarn, but do read my recommendations on which metro stop to take at knitmap). There's also Anntorps Vav, with a lot of Malabrigo, in Gamla Stan (the old part of town), but the lady behind the 'counter' doesn't speak any english. She's sweet though.
If you are able, I liked Strikk in Goteborg best. So if your are able to also visit Goteborg, I definately recommend it, it's beautiful!
Love from Holland, Shanna
Hi Julie, This is my first visit to your blog and I'm so glad to find more fanatical knitters just like me. Your blog is great. Kind regards, Anita.
