Modification Monday: Peabody summer cardigan

Original Pattern: Peabody

Knitter Extraordinaire: Ioana (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Created a bottom-up raglan cardigan using the main lace design from the sweater. Also changed the sleeves to be short, with a puffed shoulder, and a small lace detail on the back. Project page with great notes can be found here.

What Makes This Awesome: Ioana wanted a summery, cropped cardi with short puffed sleeves, but love the lace detail on the Peabody sweater. I'm so impressed by her complete reinvention of the design! She focused on the part she loved best (the leafy lace), and built the sweater around that, without compromising on her original vision of a cropped cardi with short, puffed sleeves. The finished result is spectacular- beautiful, fresh, and perfect for summer.

Oh man, this one is about perfect. I need a cute fitting cardi like that to go over all of my sleevless work dresses! Good find.

I am a long time lurker and appreciate your blog! I just want to gently point out that you nearly always seem to feature FOs made by skinny women. I am thin myself and don't have any particular agenda but my little daughter who is five pointed out that you always post "princesses" on Mod Mondays so I was moved to finally post.
I love Mod Mondays, but am uncomfortable with the seeming aesthetic requirements!

Hi Erin,

I wish that blogger actually captured email addresses so I could respond to your concerns more privately, but alas, this is my only way to respond to your comment.

I'm sorry that you feel that the 'aesthetic requirements' for being the focus of a Mod Monday is being thin. I have never, ever chosen a mod based on the model's weight (or skin colour, or gender, or facial features...). I choose based on the modification, details on their project page, and the quality of their photos (I.e., clear, well-lit, no flash, easy to see the details, and more than two photos to choose from). I'm not going to point out the models on previous Mod Mondays that have been more fuller figured, because that would be not be remotely appropriate.

I'm actually pretty offended that you would suggest that I choose my features based on 'thinness'. I'm in it for the knit.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the response! I am sorry you are personally offended by my comment - it truly was meant to be constructive, though delurking to post a criticism was probably not particularly sensitive of me.
For what it's worth, before I posted I looked back at older posts and thought hard about whether expressing my thoughts would be constructive. It is a thought that has occured to me regualry when Mod Mondays come up in my blog feeder, so I felt it was a valid comment. Fair enough if you don't feel the same - we can agree to disagree!

This is so fresh looking. Mango and white is so unexpected and the addition of the belt is perfection. And about the knitter who is offended by the thin models....sounds way too tyrannical for me. Its just not the way to change the world, in my opinion. Was it Gandhi who said "Be the change you want to see in the world." I don' think he meant hit other people over the head to get them to come around to your way of thinking. Sorry for the rant, but I hate that you had to be put on the defensive. You seem like too decent a person to be put through that. Chloe
