Wee Wednesday: Booties and a Trip to the Cottage

We recently spent a long weekend up at the cottage, for the first time since Lila was born. I think it's safe to say she had a good time, as did we:

As it's normally an 8 hour drive, we flew this time, which, while obviously more expensive, was only an hour each way and was good practice for our trip to England at the end of this month (did I mention we're going to England? Because we're going England. And hey, while we're there, might as well pop over to Paris for a couple days....). The only thing I've noticed while reviewing these photos is that we were obviously too busy juggling the baby while on the plane to take any in-flight photos- next time, for sure.

Yarn: Knit Picks Merino Style and Michell & CIA Luxury Collection Alpaca Peru

Needles: Can't even remember. Why didn't I fill that in on Ravelry?

Notes: I actually knitted these booties when I was still pregnant, but they were turning out huge an I figured I'd have lots of time to finish them... then promptly forgot where I put them. I recently found them again, I realized that they would fit Lila now. Just needed to be seamed, and crochet chain some shoelaces. The problem? Shoelaces and an 8 month old. I basically just put knitted baby toys on her feet. She loves them, but it's really hard to keep them on her feet. And those busy baby feet meant that it was really hard to take a photo that didn't result in blurry booties. The pattern- it was easy to follow, and the booties are super cute. I wish I had made these in a brighter colour, though. The beige is tough to match with her wardrobe, which features lots of bright colours (like the Sunnyside baby sweater she's wearing). I love these, though. If I could keep her from pulling them off, they would be perfection.

This photo cracks me up.

My mom always tied the bunny ears together. Translation: after you tie the regular bow, take the loops and tie them together. Bow stays tied. Doesn't come undone of its own accord, and doesn't come undone if you just pull on the loose ends. Hope that helps, although of course, she'll still play with them.

And that's OK, because if she's playing with them, she's basically playing with her feet, and that's always adorable. :)

This post is adorable! Sounds like traveling with Lila went well. We have yet to go further than two hours in the car for our adventures.

My 5 month old, Zooey, is just getting to the point where she wants to rip off her socks to play with her feet, so I haven't been working on any baby footwear lately.

Those booties are adorable! And good girl Lila for appreciating a great hand knit! I'm sure that's why she's playing with them, she knows quality knitting when she sees it. ;)

Love that she's still rockin' her Sunnyside.

Aaaah, that last photo is hilarious! And all the photos of her all bundled up in the snow - OMG, so cute. I absolutely love those booties, but can see how they would be prettty tempting for little hands! But seriously...little Converse? Adorable.

P.S. The idea of flying internationally with an infant or toddler scares me to no end, but all my friends who have done it make it sound like it's not nearly as bad as one would expect (one family w/ an 8 month old flew to Australia, ACK!). Did you know they have in-flight bassinets? Anyway, good luck! :)

Such cute pics! Also, I would love to know how your trans-Atlantic flight with a baby goes, since we'll have to do one w/a 3-month old in October and I'm curious how that might go…and, lastly, you guys have a Sophie giraffe! My best childhood friend just gave us one for our bun in the oven and I think it's adorable, but I think it will have to be an out-of-the-house toy b/c our dogs also love squeaky toys.

As my teen daughter loves her converses, it made me smile to see Lila's wee ones! Don't worry about your overseas flight -- we regularly traveled with our two to England since my hubby is British, too, and they were wonderful!

What cute booties and pics of Lila too! It's funny, I also knit a cabled Sunnyside for my daughter. :)

Ok, too cute! Those eyes in the last photo are priceless. :)

I've traveled Air Canada to Paris with another passenger having a baby on board, and other than a little fidgeting which is to be expected, the baby slept just like the rest of us. :)

I also caught a great documentary about the architecture of Quebec City, but that's another story ...

I am so going to knit these bottles! We are off skiing with the baby in March, they will be perfect. Good luck with your trip to England! You may as well add Paris afterwards, it will be a doodle then!

So cute! Love the bootie toys and tiny cardigan. Looks like you had a wonderful trip north. So much snowy goodness. And you're going to England/France. How exciting!

Your baby is gorgeous :)
I have flown many long distance flights with one, two, three and most recently four kids. We live 12,000 miles from my parents... It's okay - the time goes real quick although watching any films is tricky and eating a meal is even trickier! But, keep ringing that bell - the flight attendants are usually pretty good at helping out.

Ha, I'm currently knitting these (and pregnant) and have also realized they seem larger than I imagined. Hmm, now I wonder if I should start over so that she might actually keep them on!
