Modification Monday:Scribble Lace Poncho

Original Pattern: Scribble Lace Stole

Knitter Extraordinaire: Anet (Ravelry ID, website)

Mods: Made a stole twice as long as the width and crochet the edges together, leaving an opening for the neck. Full details on the project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome:  I love the simpicity of this- the laceweight really highlights the sheen of the bulky weight yarn, and would be perfect for showcasing a really special skein.Would you believe that in two years of Mod Mondays, this is the first modification turning a stole into a poncho? Anet's notes on how she did it make it sound like you could do make a perfect poncho like this with any stole, with a bit of planning. I love her crocheted picot edging, it's a lovely detail. And her daughter (photos) looks great modelling the sunny yellow!

Thanks for featuring this. Probably the most important thing to get right is the proportion between length and width. As scribbling is very stretchy, take this into account when deciding on the dimensions. Take a rough measure from your shoulder for a comfortable poncho width that will suit you and work with that. Remember you can always add a little length with fringes or a crochet border, but a poncho that is too long and/or wide will bug you forever. On the upside...it can always become a shawl or blanket again !!
