Modification Monday: Simplified Caftan Pullover

Original Pattern: Caftan Pullover

Knitter Extraordinaire: Susan (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Changed the neckline and corresponding motifs, narrowed the sleeves, and adjusted overall length. Project page with more info can be found here.

What Makes This Awesome: The original pattern was lovely, but Susan read the reports of other knitters who said that it didn't wear as well in real life as it looked in the photo. So, she made adjustments- changed the neckline to a simple scoop and altered the motif as well as narrowing the sleeves for a more streamlined fit. The result is a beautiful, easy-to-wear sweater with all the elements that attracted her to the design in the first place. Something to keep in mind the next time you see a pattern you love, but might not be practical for day-to-day life!

Love the pullover as modified. So many times something will look great on the magazine model who is standing still, but once you wear it, you realize that it just doesn't work in real life. Kudos to Susan.

This is lovely! My mother made a similar pullover 30 years ago and wore it while pregnant with me and then, twenty years after, I wore it and loved it (not pregnant, though)! Thank you for reminding me of it, makes this item even more beautiful in my eyes!

The original one is so beautiful, glad someone took the time to make a wearable garment out of it!
