Bunny Cake (and Giveaway Winner!)

The Winner of the Stella Collection Ebook is....... Elena! Congratulations, Elena!!

I recently found this amazing bunny cake mould in an import shop that specializes in goods from Germany. I've never been to Germany, but if they have lots of baking things like this cake mould, then I need to book a flight and take an empty suitcase- bakeware is a weakness of mine.

The cake is small- it's good for two people, or maybe just one person, if it were, say, your birthday or you were having a bad day. Fortunately a cake recipe for just the right amount of batter is printed (in several languages) on the side of the box. Next time I make this, I'll experiment with decorating it- it looks like it would be so much fun- decorated and detailed with icing, or dipped in chocolate, or maybe with a lemon glaze....

Hello Julie,
we bake cakes like this for Easter. A cake in a lamb mould is even more usual. You can have a look at several cake moulds on the homepage of the most famous German baking mould producer: http://www.kaiser-backform.de/oster-fruehlings-backsortiment_224/backform-lamm_7261.html?sid=843E9B2C-0701-4F44-8E3E-32953B6520E6
Greetings :-) Betsy

Holy smokes, did you get this baking pan thing in Toronto? My bunny-loving baker friend has a birthday soon and I am looking for ideas!

These lamb-shaped baking molds were very common in the US in the 1950s. I had some in aluminum but my favorites were of cast iron & weighed a ton. The lighter weighted forms were hard to keep shut as the cake rose. I remember my mother decorating her Easter lamb pound cake with white frosting & coconut with cherries for the eyes. Great memories. Enjoy your lamb.

I just found a cast iron mold on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-CAST-IRON-SHEEP-CAKE-MOLD-CHOCOLATE-1900S-/290721037465?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b052fc99. The price is quite horrible! I just sold one last year for about $50 in a garage sale.

My mom's go-to baby shower cake pan is a three-dimensional bear (if it's not this one: http://www.wilton.com/shapedpan/Stand-Up-Cuddly-Bear-Pan it's one very similar), and it does look awesome decorated. I bet yours would too.

Ha! Love this! If you ever get the chance, do go to Germany, it's well worth it!

Being German I can confirm that it is made for Easter. I have like 7 or 8 lambs and bunnies to make one for the whole family. The lamb serves more people!

Forget to say: the thing in front of the bunny is supposed to be a Ester egg.

That is so cute! I love eating cute things, but I hate baking- maybe this cute bunny mold would be incentive for me to make cute things and eat them!
