Book Review & Giveaway: Coastal Knits
This is easily one of the most beautiful pattern collections I can ever remember seeing. Every aspect- the patterns, the photographs, the sketches, the information on the design process, the layout- everything contributes to the overall look and feel of this book. Some of my favourite patterns are:
Water's Edge Cardigan
Rustling Leaves Beret:
Rocky Coast Cardigan:
Gnarled Oak Cardigan:
What strikes me the most about this pattern collection is that every single knit looks easy to wear. Not over styled, but realistically pretty- like any of us could knit this, put it on, and get the exact same look.
Alana and Hannah seem very well paired in this East Coast/West Coast collaboration- the knits work together as a collection really well, and it seems only fitting that they share the glory of the two most popular patterns- Alana designed the Rustling Leaves beret and Hannah designed the Rocky Coast cardigan, both are the strong runners for most popular pattern in the collection.
Looking at the patterns on Ravelry does not do this book justice- it really is a gem. I really liked the patterns when I saw them on Ravelry, but it wasn't until a had a copy of the book in my hands that I was utterly blown away by the whole collection. You need to get this! And when you do, head on over to the Ravelry Coastal Knits Group for a community of others who are also knitting the patterns. You know what else would be fun? How about we give away a copy of Coastal Knits? Leave me a comment below telling me your favourite pattern from the collection by November 20th, 12:00 p.m. (that's noon!) EST.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 265 of 265Love this book! I think my fave is Water's Edge.
Thanks so much,
GG
Difficult choice! I would go with the Gnarled Oak Cardigan though, it just looks so beautiful :)
The Rocky Coast Cardigan might need to become my first ever hand knit sweater. But all the patterns are beautiful.
Rocky Coast is my favorite! Thanks for the giveaway!
It is very hard to chose, but I would have to say the Rocky Coast Cardigan or the Gnarled Oak Cardigan. And I am so sorry I can't buy this book in any bookstore in Denmark...
I love the Rocky Coast Cardigan. 288 projects on ravelry for this so far, and they all look amazing! I would love the book (even though I live in the Coastal Mountains, and not the Rockys...)
The Rocky Coast cardigan is by far my favorite pattern of the entire collection. Thanks for hosting this giveaway & giving us all a chance to win. :)
My favourite is the Sand and Sea Shawl.
My favorite ? The Rocky Coast Cardigan without a doubt. I also want the Bayside pullover, the Cambrian cowl and the Gnarled Oak cardigan ... to start with ! ;) I'm waiting to see if my Christmas budget will allow me to buy a second gift for myself along with the TFA's yarn club ... hopefully I'll get a copy here ;)
I saw this on their blogs and I love love love this book, it's actually on my christmas list, I don't really buy knit pattern books but this one has to be a must for a stylish knitter as myself ;)
I would have said Rocky Coast, until I saw the photo of Water's Edge in your review. I'd overlooked it in the collection on Rav, but seeing it on its own--wow!
I would LOVE to win a copy of this book! Thanks so much for the giveaway:)
My favorite patterns are the Water's Edge Cardigan and the Rustling Leaves Beret! I think I would make the beret first because I just love that one!

When I first learned to knit, I was obsessed with going through stitch dictionaries and just knitting swatches of every stitch pattern I could. The Rocky Coast Cardigan reminds me of one of my favorite stitch patterns - one of the ones that kept me encouraged in those early days! :)
My favourite is the gnarled oak cardigan... I would love to knit one.
All the patterns are so beautiful! My favourite pattern is the wildflower cardigan.
They are all so beautiful, but it's the Rocky Coast Cardigan that really calls to me.
You're right, the patterns are all so wearable, with just the right amount of "flair" to each item. I love the rocky coast cardigan, and the little frill on the Water's Edge is beautiful.
I really like this collection but my favourites have to be the Rocky Coast Cardigan and the Rustling Leaves Beret. Not sure which one comes first.
My favorite is the beret. I NEED that beret!!
This book is clearly the best of 2011. I love the Rocky Coast cardigan!
All the patterns are great, but the Rocky Coast pattern is my favorite.
The "Water's Edge Cardigan" looks like such a flattering design...I think it is my favorite. Good luck to me!
I really love the Water's Edge. The color that the sample was knit in is GORGEOUS.
I love the look of the Gnarled Oak Cardigan. Thanks for the giveaway!
The Gnarled Oak Cardigan is hands down my favorite, but the rest of the book is pretty too.
The patterns are all lovely, but I think first on my list is Rocky Coast!
Well, I love them all! The book design is beautiful and harmonious with the theme. I guess if I had to pick one it'd be the water's edge cardigan because it's one of those awesome pieces to have in your closet that you can throw on with anything and look adorable (and feel adorable in it too)!
Oooh... the Gnarled Oak Cardigan! I was considering modding a pattern to make something just like that, but now i don't have to! If i don't win it, i am buying this one for sure...
Love the Water Edge sweather , well I love every pattern but that one I will make for me! Thanks
I love the Rustling Leaves Beret and the Water's Edge Cardigan. The pictures are beautiful.
Can't decide between the Wildflower cardigan and the Gnarled Oak cardigan. All of the designs are beautiful, though. What a lovely book!
Hi Julie!
I don't know what is the time there but it is 7:20 am of 20th here in Finland, so maybe I made it in time... ;o)
The book truely seems gorgeous as do all of the patterns. I could see myself making and wearing them all.
So the favorite... Hmm, I guess it must be Bayside Pullover, or Sand and Sea Shawlette, or Rocky Coast Cardigan... ;oD
P.S. Gongrats on your belly action! ;o) I wish all you 3 all the best!
My favourite by far is the Rocky Coast Cardigan. I would want to knit this is a super soft and luxurious yarn, so that way every time I wear it it will feel like a loving hug full of cable-y goodness!
Such beautiful patterns -- I'd love to win a copy! I think my next sweater will be either Rocky Coast or Water's Edge... so hard to decide!
Would love to knit the Rocky Coast Cardigan. Thanks for the giveaway
This is such a beautiful book, thanks for the giveaway Julie. My two favourite patterns are Bayside and Sand & Sea.
how sweet is that "rustling leaves beret" (my fav.) beautiful book.
I love the Water's Edge Cardigan! This looks like such a beautiful book. I would treasure a copy :-)
What a wonderful giveaway. I love the Rocky Coast Cardi! But all of them are stunning.
So many pretty designs, but I think I like the Wildflower Cardigan the most. I imagine it in a bright green for springtime.
I definitely love the Rustling Leaves beret!
Water's Edge!! Love the design & how it is pieced together.
I love so many but the Rocky Coast Cardigan keeps holding the #1 spot in my heart! Fingers crossed!
So hard to choose! I love the look of Waters Edge, but I probably wouldn't make that one for me. Rocky Coast would the self-indulgent knit of choice. The simple stitch pattern makes for such a stunning look.
Thanks for the chance to win this fabulous collection!
Jessica
This book goes beyond a collection of patterns and is definitely one I’ve love to add to my library. My favourite is the Rocky Coast Cardy … the cables capture the movement of a craggy coastline. CK is a menagerie of visual delights … hand drawings, vignettes, pictures and scenic descriptions … topped off by beautiful patterns!

I have been DYING for a copy of this! Being a poor graduate student sucks... knitting is my saving grace! I love love love these patterns... so beautiful.
My favorite is the Sand and Sea Shawlette, but I like almost everything in that book, kudos to the authors.
I think I'm gonna have to make the rocky coast and the wildflowers one as well.
Leaves Beret - my favorite...
I love the gnarled oak cardigan!
I'm totally digging the Water's Edge Cardigan, but that might mostly be because I need to have that yarn. Right. Now.
Congrats Julie can't wait to see all your baby knits....as for my favourite pattern, I would have to say the Water's Edge is my fav.
It would have to be Rustling Leaves beret - difficult though it may be to make a choice!
I love 'leafy' patterns, and this one is just gorgeous!
The Rustling Leaves Beret is perfect for this cold winter ahead of us!
I'm not sure if it would flatter me, but the water's edge cardigan is so lovely!
What a great book! I think I have to add that to my wish list…..
I love the detail in the Rustling Leaves Beret! It looks like it would be a fun quick knit that everyone would love as a gift. (Let alone me)
Ooooh, I have been drooling over the Waters Edge pattern since it came out!! :-)
I love the rocky coast cardigan, but it's a bit adventurous for me! The cumbrian cowl looks so soft and suggly!!
