Ingredients:
3 cups of milk (26 fl. ounces)
60 g dark chocolate
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup peanut butter
Directions: melt the dark chocolate into a saucepan of milk on medium-low heat. Stir in sugar and vanilla extract. Stir in the peanut butter really well; then pour into cups and enjoy!
Substitutions:
- use vanilla flavoured soy milk instead of regular milk; omit additional vanilla
- use 1/3 cup cocoa powder instead of dark chocolate. Not as smooth, but still good!
- use 1/3 cup of agave nectar if you are avoiding refined sugar
Notes: it's hard to take pictures of hot chocolate in the evening, which is when I made most of these recipes. I totally need a light box
EDIT: Some have asked about the mugs. I got them from an etsy seller that doesn't seem to have a shop any more! Her blog can be found here, perhaps you can convo her if you are really interested.

Thanks Julie! This is going to be so fun. It's currently 50ºF down here but there's promise of colder weather later in the week - and maybe some snow! Can't wait to see what's next.
Yum! I think I'll be making this as a little after dinner treat tonight for my son. Looking forward to your next creation.
what I love are those mugs--adorable!
That is the coolest photo, with all those furry animals represented in various ways.
Thanks for the cocoa recipe!
Amazing mugs, once again :)
Looks yummy! And, I have to say those mugs are awesome! Where did you get them (they would be the perfect valentine's gift for my guy...believe it or not!)
maybe you could line the lightbox with cloth?
the SK will just die with happiness when I make this :)
Sounds delicious! You must have quite the collection of adorable little mugs in your house.
oh this is a perfect recipe for my boyfriend - he LOVEs peanut butter! Too bad his birthday was yesterday! It'll be a late bday present.
Holy crap! Why didn't I even consider the possibility that peanut butter could go in hot chocolate?! I'm sold! Trying this soon!
Ooooh I can already tell I'm going to be bookmarking all of these recipes!
oh this is perfect and perfect timing! i've got a few hours before the blizzard comes, just enough time to get the ingredients i don't have for this, thanks!!
This is my definition of heaven.
mmmmm sound delicious
Peanut butter hot chocolate? Genius. I think I'll have to buy some different peanut butter, though, as I doubt that crunchy, 100%-peanut peanut butter would work so well...
ooh, I have to try this recipe!
THIS is what I'm doing with my impending show day. Thanks :)
Seems so yummy!
Mm that sounds good. I've been adding a scoop of nutella and a scoop of fluff to my hot chocolate. It's not fancy, but it's delicious!
Hmmmm ... I'm reading this at work and can't wait to go home and try it out.
Thanks for sharing!
Sondra
Yay! I'm going to make this as soon as I get home tonight from work. Should be quite a satisfying after-work treat. Also: Those mugs are extremely cute!
Thanks!
My husband absolutely loves you for this recipe.
Wow. I love your hot chocolate recipes! They look much more interesting than the usual hot chocolate. The weather had been a little cooler here recently so this will be perfect. Thanks!
I made this, but I only had chunky peanut butter. Ugh. The overall taste was good. But my husband and I don't particularly like dark chocolate. We find that it makes the cocoa bitter. So I advise using bitter sweet or milk chocolate chips.
Interesting, trying it with chunky peanut butter!
I stand by the recipe reocmmendation to use dark chocolate. Once melted with the mik and sugar, it is not even remotely bitter. I like milk chooclate, so I'm not trying to push a dark chocolate agenda onto anyone. Milk or semi sweet chocolate will likely make the overall recipe too sweet once you add the sugar as well, or not sweet enough if omitting the sugar due to a different chocolate choice.
I just made this, and Julie, you are my new hero.
Ultimately, I couldn't justify buying crappy peanut butter just for one recipe, so I used my 100% peanut crunchy peanut butter and just strained out the crunch. It's divine. Although, to the surprise of no one who's ever met me, I think next time I'll up the chocolate quantity.
