Ingredients:
3 cups of milk (26 fl. ounces)
60 g dark chocolate
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp grated orange zest
Directions: melt the dark chocolate into a saucepan of milk on medium-low heat. Stir in sugar, vanilla extract, and then add the orange zest and let simmer on low heat for a few minutes, stirring constantly. Then pour into cups and enjoy!
Notes: I recommend using organic oranges, if you can find them. Otherwise really scrub it down well before zesting to avoid a lot of 'food grade' wax in your hot chocolate.
Substitutions:
- use vanilla flavoured soy milk instead of regular milk; omit additional vanilla and reduce added sugar
- use 1/3 cup cocoa powder instead of dark chocolate. Not as smooth, but still good!
- use 1/3 cup of agave nectar if you are avoiding refined sugar

I'm obsessed with that flavor combo too. I can't believe I never thought of trying it for hot chocolate before. I mixed orange extract into brownies once - that was good. Oh and here's a recipe we used to make at camp: cut off the top of an orange, scoop out the insides, fill with brownie batter, put the top back on, wrap in tin foil, and bake in coals (or on a grate over a fire). It's a great camping treat!
You have so many cute mugs! Another great recipe. Thanks!
This sounds yummy! We're lucky enough to have an orange tree in our backyard so I can use those without worrying about any nasty stuff being on them.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting all of these amazing hot chocolate recipes! I haven't had a chance to make any yet, but each one made me drool in anticipation! Orange/chocolate is one of my favorites...that will need to be the first one up this weekend. YUM.
I think I'm psychic ... I've been really under the weather and I went to the supermarket to get the ingredients for your Raspberry hot chocolate to make me feel better and then I got confused and came back with oranges instead of raspberries! I was just going to wing it but now you've published the recipe!
I bet the presentation won't be as pretty when I make it, though!
Yay!!! Orange & chocolate, my favorite combo ever since I had Terry's chocolate orange when visiting family in England. I don't usually think to have hot chocolate even though I'm a freak for chocolate but all these flavors have inspired me to rethink the whole concept.
mmm this is the best one by far! What a perfect recipe! Orange&chocolate is my favorite sweet flavor combo, and I can't believe I've never made orange cocoa before! thanks so much!
I've got to say, I'm loving all these hot chocolate recipes. I've never liked orange/chocolate but I guess I'll have to give it another shot!
You are killing me with all this Hot Chocolate. (And cute mugs!)
This was delicious! Now I have to try the other six flavours...
Yep, this is probably my favorite as well. Thanks for sharing some great hot chocolate inspiration!
This was delicious. I made an adult version and added a (generous) splash of Grand Marnier to mine. Yum.
Just made this! Soooooo yummy! I'm having a brownie with it - chocolate indulgence :)
