Sorry it took me so long to get to this- I had the flu last week, and I was definitely down for the count! But all better now.
While in England, I only visited two yarn shops, and both were wonderful. In Bristol, I went to
Wooly Thinking:
Which was a lovely little shop in the Clifton Arcade of Bristol. It's a fabulous area of the city for a wander, and the shop had a great selection of yarn, including lots of UK yarn:
And also stocked a great selection of handcrafted buttons:
I'm definitely planning on visiting this shop again the next time I'm in Bristol.
I appreciate the patience of all the in-law relatives that had to stop and wait for me for about half an hour while I perused the shop, trying to decide what to buy! They had some amazing hand dyed local yarns.
So, in the end, this is what I bought in England:
I love them all. They are all buttery soft, and I was pleased to snag the hand dyed skeins of fingering (from Blue Faced Leicester sheep, apparently!) from Ramshambles- they are really amazing. I was also impressed by the grey UK Alpaca- it's sooo soft. I have all this wonderful new yarn, and there are so many projects I want to knit- if only my wrists could withstand all the knitting I want to do every day!!

So sorry to hear you were ill. Glad you are recovering. England looks amazing and the yarn you chose is beautiful.
Great shopping - both those shops look lovely. If I'm ever in Bristol or York I'll drop by
Great haul! I can't wait to get to England this year for the holidays. I have requested a trip to Bath and Bristol be added to our adventures and will definitely check out wooly thinking. Glad your feeling better!
Score on the shopping! Glad you are feeling better.
Glad you're feeling better. I've only ever been to Get Knitted in Bristol which was not a fun experience. Glad you found a fun one.
I'm glad you're over the illness!!
That yarn looks so gorgeous. I have the same regret about my wrists. There's far too much fun knitting that needs to happen!
ps: The name "Ramshambles"? That's bloody excellent.
That just might be the cutest yarn shopping ever! Such great stores and some serious yarn purchases.
Glad you are feeling better.
I'm glad you're in a good health now.
Those shops look great. We don't have so nice looking LYS here. Cheers!
Ramshambles: I love it... I wish I'd thought of that name!!
Your choices are gorgeous! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.
Glad you're on the mend.
Love the handpainted yarn! And those buttons looked fab! Lucky girl!
Fun! I can't wait to see what you make.
So sorry to hear you were sick - it is no fun being sick.
Your trip looks fun and your purchases look awesome!
Beautiful yarn!! I can't wait to see all the nice projects you're going to knit with it!!
And I'm happy that you're feeling better!
beautiful yarn!!! I love the store front of the first shop. It looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing your vacay with us!!
Thanks for the links, may have to check out the stores in the UK! Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Looks like you had a great time! The yarn looks positively yummy!
Glad you're feeling better! That handpainted fingering weight is so lovely. I can't wait to see what you decide to make :)
Great yarn, cant wait to see what you make.
Good to hear you are feeling better. Nice yarn, the hand dyed is lovely.
What a loot! You have great in-laws!
Hope you are feeling better, ask your man for a Hot Toddy to cure you! ;) good stuff that. Plus a spicy curry and you are a new person, at least that's what made me new again last week.
Looks like I have to stop in Bristol or York when I'm in the Shire again. A good yarn shop is always a good reason to visit a new place.
Doesn't Bristol have this huge big yarn place as well?
Good that you're feeling better.
Looks like a glorious trip and awesome stash enhancements!
These two stores are beautiful. I really love the facade of the second one! Nice yarn. I like the blues and only wish I could touch them!!!
Happy to hear you're on the mend :) Thanks for telling us about those UK yarn shops - I used to go to Bristol a few times a year - can't believe I never found that shop! Will definitely go next time. I love everything about York - you should try to go on the lead up to Christmas - cold but cosy - roasted chestnuts and outdoor markets - just perfect! Can't wait to see what you create with your new stash :)
These yarn shops look great, wish I could wander around them all. I miss being home sometimes ;)
Just been catching up with all my blog reading. What fun! Looks like you had a great time! And eat some yummy yarn too ;)
