FO: Geodesic Cardigan

DSC_0560-9

Pattern: Geodesic Cardigan

Needles: 4 mm circulars (US 6)

Yarn: Malabrigo lace

Mods: Added more tucks, by eliminating 4 stockinette rows between each tuck.

Notes: If you have seen one of the other 300 hundred or so Geodesic cardigans in Ravelry, then you might notice that I have more tucks, and that they are closer together than in the original pattern. There is a slight excess of fabric across the bust, which, if I hold it closed, disappears. I'm not sure if this is consistent with other Geodesic cardigans, or if it is (more likely) the result of adding more tucks. I might add a small hook and eye closure, we'll see. I took my sweet time knitting this, because I hated the needles I was using (Addi lace needles). They had an awful 'step' in the metal bit, and I found that my stitches didn't flow smoothly over it at all. There were more than a few times I was ready to scream, as I manually pushed one stitch at a time over the step in the metal. Ugh. I hate them, and will probably never use them again. BUT- I love the final result. And it's a dream to wear- it's so, so soft and lightweight.

You know what owning a butterfly headband has taught me? That children LOVE the butterfly headband. If I wear this around any small children whatsoever, they are immediately entranced, obsessed, and generally all over it. The girls especially, but the boys are also pretty intrigued. If you enjoy beguiling small children, I recommend you get one (or making one- it's probably super easy). I've seen them lots of places, but I picked mine up here.

I'm entranced by that butterfly headband, too! I've got to try to find one and see if I can wear butterflies in my hair with this short haircut. It might look like butterflies are weirdly hovering around my head!

That sweater is super cute, too!

Beautiful cardi! I loved this pattern the moment I saw it and immediately planned to cast on for it. Of course, I have yet to take that step, but seeing yours makes me very tempted to drop everything and start my own.

Love the headband too, I wish I had one to wear around my 4 1/2 year old niece, she would love that!

You (and your knitting) are so pretty. :)

Love your mods - more tucks look great. I can imagine it with a hook and eye closure, but you have to wear it a couple of times to see if you actually need it.

Do you know that you eye colour and the cardigan colour match? How sweet!

As for the needles, until I experienced with more kinds I thought needles didn't matter. Well, now I know that they do! I cannot stand bamboo needles, I'm struggling with birch needles and acrylic needles are just too squeeky. So it's steel needles for me! KnitPicks, actually. And I have just bought a set of HiyaHiya dpns, and I love those too. Probably because they are steel :-)

This looks great! I love how the extra tucks look. The excess fabric isn't noticeable at all.

Beautiful sweater!! I really like how it sort of angles in at the bust and think a closure there would be neat. Well done! And I have to agree with the young'uns...LOVE the headband.

Julie, the cardi is awesome. I have really been wanting one but was too lazy to start it :-( Anyway, your looks great on you and seems to be the exact shade of your eyes?

Love the headband too!

Lovely! Also, I agree about the Addi lace needles. I avoid using mine as much as possible. The color goes really well with the butterflies!

You're so pretty, and so is the cardigan! And I know what you mean about entrancing small kids, I have a pair of animal mittens and kids LOVE them.

I recently bought and used several Hiya Hiya circs (stainless steel) and think they're smooth, fast and delightful!

I, too, have had to pull every single stitch over a 'step' one time. It drove me mad so I feel your pain.

The extra tucks you worked in make the cardi look more feminine. Very nice!

SO beautiful! I love the color choice too, I usually avoid knitting green objects because I've already got way too many green clothes, but you may have convinced me. :)
