Beginnings, Finish Lines, and Shaun the Sheep

This sweater is seriously taking up all my time, but the end is in sight... the body is done, and I'm a sleeve and a half away from completion. I've also been trying to learn how to crochet, and have managed to turn out this little swatch:I don't remember learning how to knit, so I can't remember a time when my knitting ever looked as wonky as the beginnings of my crochet! But I'm planning on keeping at it. Ravelry has had some very inspiring crochet projects, and I'm itching to branch out my skills. And I'm excited to start this little kit soon: A Christmas gift from one of my soon-to-be sisters in law. So cute! About a week ago G and I caught the very awesome band Land of Talk in concert at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. Go listen to their track, 'Some are Lakes'. They are amazing live. G and I decided to move the wedding to March, so planning has kicked into overdrive! To be honest, I'm really glad it's going to be sooner rather than later... I get the feeling that as far as brides go, I'm a pretty lousy bride. I'm excited to marry the man I love and focus on building a meaningful life together, but I'm less interested in wedding dress shopping, guestbooks, butterfly/dove/unicorn releases and all that fuss. My favourite part about the wedding planning is this: we are doing the entire thing on a $5,000 budget. And I'm please to report that so far, we are on track. Post-wedding, I'll do a breakdown of what the costs were, and how it was done, should anyone else wish to get a few ideas on how to have a budget-friendly wedding.

March? Seriously? Good for your for doing this wedding your way and for not being pressured by the wedding industry. I'm going to be very interested to see how you pull it off. I bet you'll have some tips for me.

Hurrah for March! It sounds like you are enjoying the process, and I'm sure that will continue. All the best (and if no one has told him lately, remind that man of yours how lucky he is).

I like the way you're facing your wedding. And I like Shaun the Sheep. :)

It's good to know that I will be in good company in March :-)

Overall, albeit that there will be 3 parts to our wedding due to the geography, it is my hope that we will not be that far over the budget that you have set yourselves either.

I agree, it's about the relationship - not the event.

I love the sheep! And I think the crochet is coming along great.

As a bride, I do believe I'll be the same as you - even down to the budget!

Lol, unicorn releases. Dude, I totally understand about not wanting to plan a wedding. I'm pretty happy with the thought of just getting married, maybe having a pretty dress, some good food, and a kick-ass photographer.

Cute swatch ;-) Please, don't post about crocheting anymore, otherwise I know I will want to learn!!! March? It's exciting and congratulations for the budget. The most important thing is to marry the man you love and spend the rest of your life with him, not spending money on artificial ornements that last one day! Have fun preparing it!

Good for you! We were married in March (it'll be 22 years). A wedding should celebrate the beginning of a marriage and the love you share -- it shouldn't be a burden financially or be anything else you don't want it to be -- it's yours (and your family's).

Congratulations.

I love Shaun. I hate to admit I have had a pattern for Wallace & Gromit for years from an old Women's Weekly magazine. Maybe someday. . .

Wowza...wedding in March on a $5000 budget? You go girl!! Wedding planning can certainly turn people into weirdos, so good for you for doing it your way. I for one never expected napkin color to ever in my life be the topic of a heated discussion...but there you have it. Boy am I glad that's over...

Good luck with your planning!!

Yay for you! I'm a fan of simple, affordable weddings too. And knitted sheep, which are much cuter and cleaner than the real things, honestly.

Welcome to the hook!
I fully support the realistic wedding budget idea, we did it 12 ears ago for that same amount! Lots of things were done ourselves, but that's why it's still so memorable ;)

I love your approach to your wedding. That's just fab! I had 13 months between my engagement and wedding and by the end just. wanted. it. to. be. over. (The wedding, that is. The marriage part is wonderful!!) I hope you succeed with your budget. Good luck! Oh, cute sheep! I'm excited to see the FO!

Congrats on the soon to be wedding. I was the same way with my wedding. I was so excited about marrying my honey but I despised the planning. I'm just not a "girly girl" when it comes to stuff like that. Its more stress than fun. That said, I'm sure you will have a beautiful wedding day.

Your Crochet swatch looks much better than the first one I made... It was supposed to be a square and looked more like a weird Christmas tree. Don't over think it crochet is simple once you get the hand of it! Let me know if I can give you any tips...
