FO: Ribbed Lace Bolero

Pattern: Ribbed Lace Bolero, by Kelly

Props to Toby at Visualbass, he's a big sweetie to take the photos. See a couple of posts below for a shot Jen took of Toby, taking a shot of me. Toby is super amazing.

Needles: 5 mm and 6.5 mm

Yarn: Honest? Bernat Satin. Bought it at Walmart. Seriously.

Mods: None really. It's customizable and I love it. And hey, those photos are of the bolero inside out, and it still looks great. That's a fabulous pattern.

NOtes: Oh my god, I'm going to knit one in every colour. This is the best thing that has happened to my summer wardrobe since... I don't know. But it's awesome. When I cast on for this project, I had just figured out something really important about what I need to do to feel satisfied, as a knitter. I had been thinking about the projects I chose in 2007, and I think I buried myself under too many large-scale projects, without enough mid-sized ones. I would churn out a few quick small things just to feel the satisfaction of an FO, but let's face it- I'm in it for the hand knit clothes. This bolero represents the first of my new knitting plans-more small and wearable knits!! Good thing summer's coming...

Oh, and as an aside:
I often get compliments on my skin, and I guarantee it's because of this concealer- Lancome's Effacernes. It is the be all and end all. If I could only take one cosmetic to a deserted island, it would be this. It's waterproof, blends fabulously, covers pores/pimples/dark circles/small countries/probably hiding Osama Bin Laden as we speak, great buildable coverage. It's brilliant, I love it, and one day we're going to get married and have babies and live happily ever after. That's how great this concealer is. I just thought you should know.

You're hilarious! Probably hiding Osama Bin Laden haha :)
Love the bolero, girl! Mine is like, 80% done and on hiatus... I didn't know how to do yarn overs when I started it (blame a dumb old knitting book that teaches it the WRONG WAY) - the lace looks the same but i can't stand doing it the wrong way to keep it consistent and my slipped stitch edge looks like crap. Good thing one of us has a good looking one! awesome work!

I love Bernat Satin. I know it's wrong. And I can't make sweaters with it because they won't block properly and they won't keep me warm and they'll make me sweat and blah blah evil acrylic blah but I WISH I COULD, because it's all pretty and shiny and cheap.

I made a Calorimetry with it, and was wearing it while shopping at Romni one time, and a lady complimented it and asked what yarn it was and when I told her she was like, "... oh." Heh.

Great knit! And thanks for the concealer tip. I happen to be on the hunt for a good one and will definitely check it out (with an endorsement like that, how could I not?)!

Thanks for the heads up on the concealer. I will have to try it out.

And yes, I love that bolero. Every version I have seen of it. I love the chocolate color you chose.

lol.....I was actually thinking to myself how nice the yarn looked even though it's Bernat Satin.
I totally love lancome too! I use their dry skin skincare stuff and it's great! their mascara is brilliant too.

I love my bolero too, I wear it all the time. It goes with everything. I too have looked back at my FOs and decided that as much as I love making sweaters, I really need to be aware of how much I'll actually wear the sweater. Nothing is worse that putting a lot of effort into a project because it's fun to knit, and then never wearing it. Well.. the knitting is still fun, but you can't show it off as much.

I LOVE it!! It's fabulous. If I were a judge on Project Runway, I would commend you for taking an inexpensive material and making it into something that looks expensive, fashion-forward, and, one might say, couture. Awesome job!

We knew UBL had to be somewhere. Pretty on the bolero, I've been eyeing that one myself for a while, but I guess it's ok to be a copycat :)

Super cute shrug--it almost looks like crochet except for the ribbing.

I've never bought that yarn because my Michael's only sells it in baby yellow and pukey green. That's an awesome color. Adorable.

Love this bolero! Just the thing to lift one out of the winter blues.

I love this shrug!! The minute I saw it I wondered if I had enough worsted hanging around to manage it right. now. I'm going to have a little problem every time I go past a Michael's now, because I'll know that I could be two balls of Bernat away from a totally cute hot item.
